Overview & Highlights

Nestled in the tranquil heart of Girona’s charming old town, Idle Hands Girona offers a culinary experience that effortlessly balances comfort and creativity. Specializing in breakfast, brunch, and lunch, this inviting restaurant is a sanctuary for those seeking vibrant flavors and thoughtful, expertly crafted dishes. From the moment you enter the tucked-away alleyway at Placa Bell-Lloc, 4, the warm ambiance paired with the rustic yet modern decor sets the tone for a memorable meal.

The menu at Idle Hands Girona is a celebration of fresh, wholesome ingredients with a nod to both international and local tastes. Start your day with their signature Granola Bowl, where homemade granola melds beautifully with seasonal fruits and creamy coconut yoghurt, offering a refreshing, natural sweetness that feels both indulgent and nourishing. For pancake lovers, their Pancakes with seasonal toppings provide a delightful canvas of textures and tastes that change with the seasons, ensuring each visit brings something new to the table.

One of the standout savory options is the Shakshuka — a warm, baked Middle Eastern tomato and red pepper sauce crowned with a perfectly cooked egg and a sprinkle of feta cheese. This dish tantalizes the palate with its rich, smoky undertones and comforting warmth. For those seeking a gluten-free or vegan twist, the Herby Corn Fritters served with pico de gallo, jalapeño yoghurt, and a poached egg highlight the kitchen’s dedication to inclusivity and bold flavors. Adding smoked bacon elevates this dish even further, introducing a savory crunch that contrasts beautifully with the soft fritters.

As evening falls, Idle Hands transforms with a more intimate menu featuring the indulgent Beef Short Rib Burger priced at €14.00. Juicy and richly flavored, it’s a hearty choice that perfectly complements the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant.

What truly sets Idle Hands Girona apart is not just the quality of their food but the experience as a whole. Guests consistently praise the coffee—a standout star of their offerings—with flat whites described as some of the best in Girona, skillfully brewed and perfectly balanced. The attentive and friendly staff, many fluent in English, enhance the dining experience with seamless service that feels both personal and professional.

Outdoor seating options, though cozy and often designed for pairs, allow diners to soak in the quiet charm of the alleyway, making each visit feel like a treasured local secret. While some find the pricing slightly on the higher side, the consensus underscores that the freshness of the food, the welcoming atmosphere, and the exceptional drinks justify every euro.

Whether you are seeking a leisurely morning meal or a relaxed, flavor-packed dinner, Idle Hands Girona is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates sophisticated, honest food served with heart. As one satisfied visitor succinctly puts it, this is “the best breakfast I’ve had in Spain,” an accolade echoed by many who have made this gem a regular stop during their time in Girona.

We went here for dinner in the evening as well as breakfast on the other day. Everything was great, the flat white was one of the best I had during my stay in Girona. Also the breakfast was delicious. Can highly recommend this place

Great cafe tucked away in the old part of town! Excellent food but… the coffee is phenomenal!

The location is amazing, situated in a small and quiet street/ alleyway. They had some lovely spaces to sit outside although these are only meant for two people. We stopped for a mid-morning coffee and hot chocolate, both of which were great, however I found it to be slightly pricey for a coffee.

I often come to this restaurant — sometimes for breakfast and sometimes for the burger nights— and the food is always delicious no matter the time of day. The staff are always kind, friendly, and provide excellent service. It’s always a pleasant experience!

Great all around. Tucked into a quiet alley in old town. Coffee and food was perfect. I got a autumn special of whipped goats cheese and figs on bread, but would of went for any of the other options.

The food is delicious, beautifully presented and servers all very friendly! The best breakfast I've had in Spain!

Food tasted very good, atmosphere in the cafe was really nice with outdoor seating available too. The staff were great and spoke English which was good for me. There is a bit of a wait time for the food to arrive, but that is expected, and is a sign of freshly made food. Overall, great experience, would highly recommend for a breakfast or brunch type meal.

Idle Hands is a definition of a fantastic breakfast place with lovely service and delicious food. We choose Idle Hands based on the vegan options and overall score of 4.9 - absolutely worth it! We were greeted by the staff immediately, you could see how smooth the team operates and supports each other. We were given English menus since we don't speak Spanish. The staff also has fluent English and will support you with any questions and requests you might have. We felt very well taken care of. Main meal of the day was shakshuka - it was delicious with very unique sourdough bread which was pre-warmed up. Since I'm not a fan of feta cheese and wanted to remove it from the dish, the server suggested if I preferred to swap it with tofu - what a great advice that was. Overall I was very happy with my choice and, by the looks of other dishes on other tables, you probably can't go wrong in this place - everything looks delicious and probably tastes as such (if shakshuka is of any reference). The waiting time was also pretty low, we waited less than 10 min from the moment of placing the order. My two other companions also tried out carrot cake available on the day and both said it was very good. In 2025, for 3 people we paid €60 (including tips) for: - 3× main meals - 3× drinks - 2× desserts
